Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
A Start Up company is a new business formed bringing a product or service to the market.
Companies House is unfortunately not going to give you a list of Start Ups since you cannot generate lists of companies there, but you can with DataGardener.
If you know the company you are looking for then you can find them on Companies House, if you don’t know the name and you are simply looking for a list of Start Ups, then you can use DataGardener to generate lists by specifying the incorporation date. If you are looking for specific industries, you can also specify these by selecting a SIC Code (Standard Industry Classification) to further refine your list.
You can usually label a start up in to five different types:
- The Lifestyle Startup. A business set up to fit around a single person plying their trade or specialism.
- The Small Business Start Up, usually family owned and run.
- The Scale Up Start Up. Think of something straight out of Silicon Valley and designed to be highly scalable.
- The Quick Flip Start Up. A great idea filling a niche in the marketplace that would be sold to a larger company for a huge profit.
- The Large Company Start Up.
In UK at the moment 4.9 million active companies and every month approximately 60,000-70,000 new companies getting registered. In July 2020 alone 87,000 companies registered.

All investments carry risk, that is the first thing to remember. However, you should always dig not a company if you are thinking about investing in them. Undertake due diligence, understand the businesses that the directors have previously been involved with and get a professional to take a detailed look at the finances of the company.
It is imperative that Start Ups understand just who they are working with, DataGardener can help provide detailed information on companies to give Start Ups all the information they need when deciding whether (or not) to work with another business.
DataGardener can also help businesses generate marketing and prospect lists that they’ll need to sell their products.
If you are looking for corporate investors to provide Start Up funding then you could always Google it, unfortunately that won’t give you a complete list of corporate investors! DataGardener can provide this and help you identify a list of investment companies that you can then approach for funding.
